More news has been revealed about Harmonix's upcoming, music-based shooter, Chroma, though it's not necessarily good.

According to Polygon, the end of the game's alpha period will come on June 4. An email sent out to the players that are testing the game revealed that Chroma will need some "substantial retooling" once the alpha ends.

The email reads as follows:

"Based on the terrific feedback we got from all of you in the community, as well as our own analysis, we have concluded that Chroma will need some substantial retooling to be the game we want it to be. We remain passionately committed to the high-level vision, and we think there are some very successful mechanics and systems in the existing build. The team has, in fact, already started prototyping new directions for the game based on those successful mechanics. We look forward to sharing with you down the line, as Chroma evolves in new directions."

Chroma is being developed by Rock Band creatores Harmonix Music Systems alongside Hidden Path Entertainment, the developers behind Age of Empires HD Edition. There's no indication of how long the tweaks could take or when a possible beta phase might start up, but it's good that they're committed to working out the kinks and delivering a product that matches their vision. We'll keep you up-to-date on news about Chroma as more information is revealed. We'll just have to wait patiently in the meantime as the alpha period nears its end.
