Capitol Christmas Tree Visits Twin Falls Today

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree will make a stop today in Twin Falls as it makes its way to the nation’s capital. The celebration is from 6-8 p.m. at City Park.

The 80-foot Engelmann spruce was harvested from the Little Ski Hill near McCall in the Payette National Forest.

Forest workers used a traditional crosscut saw, as a way of honoring the traditional logging skills and tools used in this region.

“We just thought it would be kinda cool because we’ve never heard of anyone else doing it,” Jared Schuster, with the Payette National Forest, said in a prepared statement.

Twin Falls is one 15 stops around the state the tree is making before it leaves for Washington, DC on Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Once it is set up on the lawn of the Capitol, it will be decorated with thousands of ornaments created by Idahoans. It will be officially lit on Dec. 6.
