Burley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - Students at the Cassia High School had a goal to collect 5000 pounds of food. That record was broken when the students delivered 11,446 pounds to the Helping Hands Shelter. The shelter uses the food to assist needy families in the area. This is the third year of the food drive. Classes challenged themselves to gather more food. The winning class was the seniors with over 5000-pounds of food. Individual students received movie tickets for bringing in large amounts.

Helping Hands Mini-Cassia shelter is a non-profit organization that provides prevention and intervention for those experiencing sexual, physical and domestic abuse. Cassia school district spokeswoman Debbie Critchfield said the students are very service minded and active for worthy causes in the county.

Teachers and administrators encouraged and provided opportunities for students to give back to the community. An assembly recognized their efforts, Critchfield said.
