TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) – A Buhl man was in Twin Falls County court Wednesday after leading officers on a high-speed chase Monday.

At about 2 p.m. Monday, Samuel Stewart, 23, of Buhl, drove passed a parked patrol vehicle allegedly going about 80 mph along U.S. Highway 30 in a 25 mph speed zone in Filer.

According to court documents, the officer began to chase Stewart, and the officer reported driving more than 100 mph in an attempt to catch up with Stewart’s vehicle. The officer followed Steward across a number of roads heading northbound, then westbound.

At one point, Stewart’s vehicle crossed some railroad tracks and the officer reported the vehicle became airborne. The officer called for U.S. Highway 30 to be closed as Stewart’s vehicle headed toward Buhl.

The officer eventually caught up with Stewart’s vehicle when he pulled into Jackson’s Kountry Korner, at 4200 North Road and North 4100 East, in Buhl. The officer arrested Steward for felony eluding an officer.

When searched, officers found drug paraphernalia. A green leafy substance was found in Stewart’s vehicle that later tested positive of marijuana. Stewart was transported to the Twin Falls County Jail. His preliminary hearing for felony eluding officer is set for April 22 and he is being held on a $25,000 bond.

Stewart’s pretrial conference is set for May 31 on misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, and driving without privilege. He is being held on a $2,500 bond.
