BSU Stands By New Playbook

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Boise State unveiled a new-look offense in last week’s season-opening loss at Washington. The early results were unimpressive as the Broncos put up just six points in what turned out to be the biggest beatdown in Chris Petersen’s coaching tenure.

Yet despite criticism from fans, former players and media, coaches are sticking with the no-huddle, pistol-style scheme. Offensive Coordinator Robert Prince told the Idaho Statesman he’s 100 percent confident the new playbook will produce better results as the season progresses.

Petersen says he realized last year it was time for a makeover after the offense finished 54th in the nation in scoring. Petersen says the goal is to make the game more simple — enabling players to think less and play faster. The Broncos meet Tennessee-Martin Saturday in Boise.
