As part of their 100th Anniversary celebration, Universal Pictures has fully restored the original summer blockbuster movie 'Jaws' and is releasing it in high definition on BluRay this August. Easily one of my favorite movies of all time, Spielberg's 1975 masterpiece created the concept of a summer  popcorn smash, and until 'Star Wars' came out four years later, had all the box office records to prove it.

Think about all the great moments: Chrissy's demise on the beach, Chief Brody's arguments with the mayor, Quint's speech about the USS Indianapolis, and that that last great confrontation with the shark aboard the Orca.

Director Steven Spielberg promises that no changes have been made to the film, just improvements to the quality.

I admit it, I was a high definition nay sayer. I thought it was just another selling point to make me upgrade my home entertainment equipment. That was before I upgraded to a 51" high definition TV and full HDMI connections on my set-up. Now I will never go back to standard definition.

I am really looking forward to this one. Universal released a behind the scenes documentary showing some of the process, and I have to admit that the newly restored footage looks absolutely stunning.

'Jaws' premiers in full 1080p high definition August 14th.
