Word is spreading like wildfire across the internet that terrorist Osama bin Laden is dead. ABC News reports that bin Laden's body is in U.S. hands, while Fox News says they have confirmed Osama bin Laden's death through "various sources." From the BBC:

The US is said to be in possession of Bin Laden's body. President Barack Obama is due to speak shortly. The al-Qaeda leader was killed in a ground operation in a mansion outside Islamabad in an operation based on US intelligence, reports said.

Bin Laden approved the 9/11 attacks in which nearly 3,000 people died, saying later that the results had exceeded his expectations.

And despite a $25,000,000 bounty on his head, bin Laden evaded the forces of the U.S. and its allies for nearly a decade. His death will be seen as a major blow to al-Qaeda but, according to the BBC, raises fears of reprisal attacks.

Just moments ago President Obama commented on bin Laden's death. From The New York Times:

President Obama announced late Sunday that Osama bin Laden, the leader of Al Qaeda responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks, was killed in a firefight during an operation he ordered inside Pakistan, ending a 10 year manhunt for the world’s most wanted terrorist. American officials were in possession of his body, he said.
