BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A 24-year-old Idaho man charged with beating a homeless man to death near a downtown Boise overpass has pleaded not guilty.

The Idaho Statesman reports that Scotty Dale Turnbull pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in 4th District Court Thursday. Prosecutors say Turnbull punched and stomped 37-year-old Russell "Rusty" Bitton to death last October near 16th Street in Boise. Police say that Turnbull also kicked and beat a woman in the head and punching another man in the face one day earlier.

He faces charges of felony and misdemeanor battery and is being held on a $1 million bond. Turnbull could face up to life in prison if he is convicted. His jury trial is scheduled for Nov. 9, with a status conference set for July 9.
