IDAHO CITY -- Boise County is looking back to its past in hopes of bringing big business to its future. Commissioners are discussing legalized limited gambling in certain areas of the county.

In May, a citizens committee was formed to research the possibility and gather the public feedback. Some say it's a part of Idaho City's past that could be profitable once again. But others are concerned about the affects that gambling would bring to the small historic town.

At their meeting on Sept. 2, commissioners will make a decision whether or not to put the issue on the November ballot as a non-binding advisory in Boise County. If voters support the idea, it would go to the Legislature, where it would need a two-thirds majority. Then, it would go before voters across the state before the state constitution could be amended.
