Boise Consultant to Determine Historical Value of Wyoming Ski Resort

JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — A proposal to expand Snow King Mountain in Jackson has triggered a historical assessment of the 76-year-old ski area in northwest Wyoming.

Ski area partners have hired a Boise, Idaho, consultant to determine whether the resort has historical significance. Findings from the report could affect the speed with which new development is approved for the mountain.

Architectural historian Kerry Davis tells the Jackson Hole News & Guide that if the ski area is deemed to be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, it could slow down the approval process for planned improvements.

Despite its storied history, the ski area has struggled to stay afloat in recent years. The resort's owners hope new development and improvements will draw more visitors.
