Two Boise air traffic controllers could be in trouble after a nearly disastrous morning last month. The morning of November 19th calls to air traffic control at the Boise Airport went unanswered from incoming and outgoing aircraft.

Pilots were forced to use alternate procedures by announcing flight plans over the radio for the other aircraft to hear. After airport operations officials were unable to contact the tower, police were called and found that the on-duty air traffic controller had fallen asleep. A second worker was found smelling of marijuana (he was scheduled to replace the sleeping worker) and unaware of any issues. No evidence was found that he had been smoking.

Luckily, this was during the slow hours of the early morning and no accident incidents were reported according to the Miami Herald.
