BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The popular Skinny Dipper Hot Springs won't close for now, while the Bureau of Land Management weighs an appeal it received seeking to keep it open.

Idaho BLM's Tate Fischer tells the Idaho Statesman he won't close or dismantle the hot springs near Banks while the appeals process is underway. He says the earliest the site could be closed is 2016. In April the BLM announced it would dismantle the hot springs, citing concerns about human health, safety and the degradation of nature around the site.

A group of people led by clean water advocate Growing Change appealed the decision. The appeal includes a proposal for long-term management of the site. Officials say the hot springs were constructed with piping and concrete on public lands in the 1990s without permission.
