Blake Shelton Defends Kelly Clarkson’s Political Views

Pop star Kelly Clarkson found herself in hot water with many of her fans when she shared her support for Presidential candidate Ron Paul via her Twitter page, but thankfully for her, it was Blake Shelton to the rescue. The ‘Honey Bee’ hitmaker swooped in to say that he loves to hear Clarkson’s point of view and would even give someone a good smack if needed.

“I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he’s got my vote. Too bad he probably won’t,” Clarkson posted on Wednesday, later clarifying for one fan that she is a Republican who voted Democrat in the last election. As one would anticipate, Clarkson’s declaration started a series of angry replies from fans who disagreed with her statement.

While the first ‘American Idol‘ winner argued with many of her Twitter fans, a few stars — like Michelle Branch — also chimed with comments, and Shelton tried to cheer up Clarkson following the flogging. “I love you!!!!,” he said, adding, “I’ll listen to your view points anytime. And I really wouldn’t mind throat punching someone for you either!!”

Clarkson took a last stand on her soap box, giving her argument one last breath. “I am really sorry if I have offended anyone. Obviously that was not my intent. I do not support racism. I support gay rights, straight rights, women’s rights, men’s rights, white/black/purple/orange rights. I like Ron Paul because he believes in less government and letting the people (all of us) make the decisions and mold our country. That is all. Out of all of the Republican nominees, he’s my favorite,” she posted.

But it was clear that her feelings were slightly hurt, and Clarkson was incredibly shocked by all of the hate spewed in her direction during the discussion. “Man my eyes have been opened to so much hate tonight. If y’all ever disagree with something I say please don’t feel the need to attack me,” she told her fans. “I will listen to what you say and any articles or viewpoints you have when you say it with respect. I was raised to respect people and their decisions and beliefs and I hope you will grant me the same decency. If you don’t agree with me simply unfollow me.”
