Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani performed their duet "Go Ahead and Break My Heart" together in concert once again over the weekend, both on Saturday night (July 16) and Sunday night (July 17) -- but this time around, it was Shelton who surprised Stefani's audience.

The country superstar first showed up onstage at his girlfriend's tour stop in Virginia Beach, Va., on Saturday night, eliciting a flurry of cheers from the crowd assembled at the Veterans United Home Amphitheater to see the pop star. Fans following Shelton or Stefani on Twitter might have had an inkling that a surprise was coming: On Saturday afternoon, Shelton tweeted, "Hello Virginia Beach!!!" and Stefani re-tweeted him. Readers can press play on the video above to watch their performance.

Shelton reprised his role on Sunday night at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Va. Both duets came near the end of Stefani's 20-plus-song set -- reminiscent of Stefani's surprise appearance during Shelton's show (on his 40th birthday) at Country Jam 2016 in mid-June, although Shelton didn't get any solo stage time on Saturday night. That might be for the better, though: During a recent interview, Shelton admitted that Stefani totally showed him up at his birthday concert.

“I’m doing my normal — what I thought was — rocking: standing with my acoustic guitar in front of the mic stand, singing my songs,” he tells Chelsea Handler. “And so … I had my band work up her song “Hella Good.” I thought it would be so cool to have her come and surprise [the crowd].

“It was the worst thing I could have done,” Shelton continues, adding with a laugh, “All it did was make me look terrible” because Stefani had the crowd jumping up and down, giving her boyfriend a taste of “what it’s like at real concerts.”

Shelton won't be on tour himself until the fall, but he's been busy lately: He recently released a music video for his latest single, “She’s Got a Way With Words,” and a re-worked version of his song "Bringing Back the Sunshine" is the official theme song for NBC Sports’ NASCAR coverage.
