Bill Clarifying Idaho’s Conceal Carry Rule Headed to Governor

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A bill to clarify that carrying a concealed weapon without a permit is allowed outside Idaho city limits on its way to the governor's desk.

The Senate voted 30-5 Tuesday to support the plan to rewrite the state's concealed carry code, despite Democratic opposition. Senate Minority Leader Michelle Stennett from Ketchum argued that firearms should require a license outside city limits. She also pointed out technical problems with the bill.

An earlier version of the plan got rid of an exception that lets elected officials and government employees carry concealed weapons without a permit. But the exception was put back in on the House side, prompting bipartisan criticism on the Senate floor. The plan also capped fees that counties can charge for permits. The House already passed the plan 57-11.
