Bidding to Start on N. Idaho Cabin Sites

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Competitive bidding is set to take place for five cabin leases on two scenic lakes in Idaho. The Spokesman-Review reports the conflict bids were filed for the first time in decades for four leases on the state-owned cabin sites at Priest Lake and one at Payette Lake.

Bids start at $1,000 for the right to take over the lease, and the highest bidder wins. Bidders had to deposit a full year's rent, averaging $20,000, by the Tuesday deadline. If the current owners lose the bids, the winners must pay them for the appraised value of their cabins.

Three lawsuits are pending over new state appraisals at Priest Lake that have risen 84 percent. The state leases 354 sites at Priest Lake and at least 150 at Payette Lake.
