White-fronted goose season extends to Feb. 19 in some parts of southern Idaho, according to the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, and light goose season runs through March 10.

Other hunting seasons include forest grouse, which is open through Dec. 31 across the state, except in northern Idaho where the season runs through Jan. 31. Seasons for bobwhite and California quail are open through Jan. 31 in northern Idaho, and chukar and gray partridge seasons are open statewide through Jan. 31.

For upland game hunters, cottontail season is open through Feb. 28, and snowshoe hare season through March 31. There is no season on pygmy rabbits.

Catch Your Limit
If fishing is more your thing, there’s opportunity to catch steelhead throughout the month.

Fall steelhead season runs through Dec. 31 in the Clearwater River and the North Fork, Middle Fork and South Fork Clearwater rivers, Fish and Game says, where bag limits are two per day and six in possession. In the Salmon, Little Salmon, Snake and Boise rivers, which also are open for steelhead through the end of the month, limits are three per day and nine in possession.

“The spring steelhead season starts Jan. 1 in these waters with limits of three per day and nine in possession,” according to the department. “Fishing for other species is open year round in many other waters as well.”

Don’t forget bring your license, watch the weather forecast, dress appropriately, don’t go afield alone, and use caution when near the water or in the field.
