NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — Authorities in Nampa ordered the evacuation of about a half-dozen homes as they investigated a backpack that was chained to a gas meter behind a movie theater. The backpack turned out to contain school supplies. Police Sgt. Tim Randal says the bomb unit was called out Monday morning after a theater employee found the backpack.

Police blocked off the area around the Edwards Theater and ordered the evacuations as a precaution. An X-ray scan was inconclusive, so a bomb squad member suited up and opened the backpack to discover the school supplies inside. The scare did not disrupt the theater's afternoon matinees.
