Move over Mighty No. 9, it seems that there is one more spiritual successor to the Blue Bomber done by one of Mega Man's original creators.

Azure Striker Gunvolt is the newest game to be developed by Keiji Inafune, the original co-designer of Mega Man. Despite being yet another beautiful-looking, 2D side-scrolling platformer, Azure Striker Gunvolt is trying to differentiate itself from both Mega Man and Mighty No. 9 in very distinct ways. While its main character, Gunvolt, still has the traditional brown hair and blue outfit we have come to expect from Inafune's signature design, he plays quite differently than his robotic predecessors.

Instead of cybernetics, Azure Striker Gunvolt revolves around psychic abilities. You play as Gunvolt, a member of a rebellion trying to stop the government's experimentation and murdering of humans found with psychic powers. Gunvolt's powers involve the use of lightning, psychic powers and a rapid fire gun that seems all too familiar.

Azure Strike Gunvolt is anticipated for a 2014 release exclusively on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS and 2DS.
