Morning commutes just got a lot more fun in Utrecht. Recent renovations to a train station in the Overvecht neighborhood of the Netherlands city included the installation of a slide (their transit authority calls it a “transfer accelerator”), which passengers can ride to the platform instead of taking the adjacent stairs.
When the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, a Canadian Football League team, scored against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, they eschewed typical touchdown celebrations like chicken dances and got their plank on instead. The offensive team drop into the rigid plank pose that’s been sweeping the globe (and more recently, fellow athletes like Dwight Howard and Gilbert Arenas).
Cutest rescue ever! Like a scene from a Pixar adventure, Ferris the Corgi embarked on a mission to free his sister, Dot Matrix, from a cage. After assessing her enclosure, Ferris neatly unhooked the clasp on the cage’s door and Dot scrambled (well, ambled) out. See the great escape below:
‘Cars 2,’ the newest blockbuster from Pixar, premiered over the weekend and with it, a teaser trailer for the animation studio’s next flick, ‘Brave.’ The film, set in the Scotland Highlands, follows the story of Merida, “a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor” who makes a regrettable wish. ‘Brave’ boasts a killer international cast of voices, including Kelly Macdonald, Emma Thompson and Billy Connolly.
We could tell you more about the latest from the beloved geniuses at Pixar, but as one YouTube commenter said, “YES OH MY GOD YES JUST TAKE MY MONEY YOU DONT NEED TO ASK.”
First he found Bin Laden and now he’s quieting the cries of our nation’s babies. In an official White House video that’s circulating today, Barack and Michelle Obama are greeting a crowd of visitors when the first lady picks up a fan’s baby. The infant is wailing, but when she’s handed over to the president, her cries instantly stop. Watch the clip below:
Just when we thought we were over the 2003 passing of Mister Rogers, a man named Christopher Barranco dug up a letter from the children’s show star that he received at age six and posted it to Reddit. In it, the late Fred Rogers expresses his condolences that Christopher cannot visit his neighborhood in real life, but they can still have “television visits and a letter visit like this one.” Even more sniffle-inducing is Rogers’ suggestion that he create a pretend visit between the two, noting that, “When you pretend, things can be any way you want them to be.” Read the full letter below:
Alex Thomas and Scott Jones, the couple who made headlines after being caught in a kiss at the Vancouver riots last week, appeared on ‘Today’ this morning to tell the story behind the makeout session seen ’round the internet. Jones explained that Thomas had been knocked to the ground by police trying to tame the crowd (which a video that emerged over the weekend supports) and he was only trying to soothe her:
Among Kim and Kris’ requested presents from Geary’s Beverly Hills were, according to Hollywood Life, a $7,850 vase and a $880 serving spoon. Walker, who will not be a guest at the wedding, went for a more subtle gift: a lone “Butter Sferra Festival” napkin costing $12.50. Check out Walker’s receipt (along with his sweet note to Kim) below:
Much is made of artists’ muses: Pablo Picasso had Marie-Thérèse Walter, Pedro Almodóvar has Penelope Cruz and Nicola Freeman has…candy necklaces and lollipops. The British art student sculpted humongous approximations of those and other sweets for an exhibition currently showing at the University of Wolverhampton.
After the Vancouver Canucks lost to the Boston Bruins in Game Seven of the Stanley Cup finals, hockey fans took to the streets of British Columbia’s capital city in a massive riot. With so much passion in the air, somebody was bound to get some action: Photographer Rich Lam snapped a couple making out somewhere between the throbbing horde and a line of riot police.
