Attorney: Suspect in Idaho Woman’s Death Not Competent for Trial

NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — A defense attorney for a 24-year-old woman accused of beating her roommate to death with a metal pipe says his client is not mentally competent to go to trial.

The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that 52-year-old Linda Westmore was found dead in October at an alcohol and substance abuse treatment center in Nampa. Kayla Teton was Westmore's roommate.

David Smethers, Teton's public defender, requested Wednesday that his client be sent to treatment rather go to trial because mental health evaluations show she would be unable to assist in her own defense.

The prosecution has objected. Judge William Dillon says he wants more information from both sides before making a decision.
