At What Age Can You Leave a Child Unsupervised at the Mall?

My kids are getting older.  My daughter asked my wife and I if we would drop her off at the mall for an hour or so with her friends.  I immediately got a stomach cramp.

Were do you draw the line between over-protective parent and giving your child the opportunity to be responsible?  Is there a magic number? How about 30?

We had comments on our Facebook page ranging from 12 to 17.
