The CW’s ‘Arrow‘ remains on break for the next few weeks, but what of the proposed ‘Flash‘ spinoff, where last we saw Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) bathed in electrified chemicals and speeding toward his destiny? The first casting snippets for the ‘Flash’ TV series have emerged from ‘Ghostbusters‘ star Ernie Hudson, revealing some surprising changes to the DC mythology!

According to Comic Book Movie, Hudson revealed over a recent ‘Ghostbusters’ podcast that he would soon test for a role in the proposed spinoff, though his secrecy illuminated little. Asked for which role he would audition, Hudson responded “”His adoptive dad…or the dad of…,” before cutting himself off to finish with “[Barry Allen's] dad has a problem.”

That notwithstanding, Blüdhaven Banter obtained the casting sheet for the pilot episode, which points to Barry’s adoptive father Detective West as the most likely role in question:

DETECTIVE WEST – Late 40s to Early 50s – African American -Detective West is an honest, blue-collar cop who’s seen it all. A soulful, funny caring father to Iris, and a surrogate father to Barry, West came up through the foster system himself. He took in Barry after his mother’s murder and his father’s imprisonment. He believes in Barry and supports Barry’s efforts to prove his father’s innocence.

The site also managed to obtain the character description for West’s daughter Iris, who like her father, has undergone a racial shift from her DC Comics counterpart:

IRIS – 22-28 – African-American – As smart as she is beautiful, Iris is in grad school studying psychology. She’s also Barry’s mile a minute, fast-talking, quick-witted best friend. Her father, Detective West, took in Barry when his mother was murdered, and his father was wrongly accused and imprisoned for her murder. In a tough childhood for Barry, she was the one “not tough” thing. She’s unaware of Barry’s strong feelings for her.

Little else is known of the CW’s ‘Flash’ spinoff, though it was decided the character be given his own pilot, rather than return for the 20th installment of ‘Arrow”s second season as originally intended. Gustin may still yet reprise the role in future ‘Arrow’ episodes, though not in any way that would deter the momentum built by its own narrative.

Well, what say you? Would you want to see Hudson join the cast of The CW’s ‘Flash’ TV series? What do you think about the series’ portrayal of the West family thus far?
