BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Legislation requiring abortion providers to give women information on accessing free ultrasound services is headed to the governor's desk for his signature.

The Idaho Senate voted 28-7 on House Bill 516 on Thursday. Only Democratic lawmakers voted against sending the measure to Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter. If approved, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare would compile a list of providers that offer free ultrasounds for women seeking abortions.

The list would be part of the informed consent brochures abortion providers are required to distribute. Supporters argue the bill is needed to provide information to women contemplating an abortion. However, opponents cited concerns that the legislation does not require free ultrasound providers to offer medically accurate information.
