400 Acres Burned Near Glenns Ferry

BOISE, Idaho (KTVB) -- Firefighters with the Bureau of Land Management Boise District say the Moon Fire that has burned 400 acres so far, was started by a powerline arcing during Tuesday night's windstorm. BLM Crews responded to a grass fire at around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, just four miles northwest of Glenns Ferry.

Elmore County dispatchers say the Moon Fire was reported near mile marker 118, which is two miles north of the Glenns Ferry freeway exit. Crews and other firefighters worked late into the night and early morning to get around the fire, and will continue working all of Wednesday to secure and put out any leftover hot spots.

The BLM was initially helped by the King Hill Rural Fire Department and Mountain Home's Rural Fire Protection Association. Firefighters are still using four wildland fire engines, one water tender, one bulldozer to fight the fire's hotspots. BLM information officer Mallory Eils says although there is no estimated control time, they're hoping to have the fire contained sometime on Wednesday.
