4 Things I’ve Learned From My Daughter Who Just Turned 4 Today

My daughter, Hannah, turned 4 today. She is a sweet little girl that, thankfully, looks more like her mother than me. Over the last 4 years, I've learned a lot from Hannah. Here are the 4 that immediately come to mind.

One does not speak when Peppa Pig is on the TV

I made the mistake of trying to ask Hannah what she wanted for lunch when she was trying to watch Peppa Pig. The scornful look that I received was fierce enough that I went and stood in the corner for a half hour and wept quietly.

Fashion matters to little girls

My wife doesn't trust me with picking out clothes for the kids very often, because she knows how I dress myself. (Shirts are sometimes optional) But, when she's busy doing mother stuff, I inherit the "get the kids dressed" portion of our program. I made the mistake of putting a yellow shirt on Hannah with red pants. The neighbors are still in the process of replacing the windows she shattered with her 125 db scream.

You don't offer her Chips Ahoy when she really wants Oreos

To me, a cookie is a cookie. Not so with the 4-year-old princess. If she wants an Oreo, you do not under any circumstances hold out a Chips Ahoy unless you fear for your life.

Don't sweat the small stuff, cause you can always watch Spongebob to make things better

If I've had a long day at work, it's easy to come home and be all uptight about this or that. With Hannah, if she's stressed, she watches Spongebob Squarepants and the world is all better. I figure if Patrick and Spongebob are able to cheer her up when she's had a bad day, maybe I should lighten up a little and just treat the entire world like it's Bikini Bottoms.
