CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — A southwest Idaho man authorities say starved and beat his 2-month-old son who ultimately died has pleaded guilty to three felonies. Twenty-six-year-old Isaac Matthew Hernandez of Nampa pleaded guilty June 8 to three counts of felony injury to a child.

A criminal complaint says the abuse began in November 2014 shortly after Sylys Hernandez was born, and that he suffered broken ribs, broken legs and other injuries. Canyon County Coroner Vicki DeGeus-Morris says the infant's cause of death is currently listed as undetermined.

Matthew Hernandez pleaded guilty two weeks before the case was to go to trial. Prosecutors planned to argue that Isaac Hernandez inflicted the injuries on purpose based on evidence he'd harmed children before.
